The Waterside Plaza complex is home to two schools, the United Nations International School and the British International School of New York, and houses a notable number of faculty and families from both schools.
UNIS represents 1300 students, the most diverse in the world, representing 122 countries and speaking 92 mother tongues.
BISNY is currently home to just over 200 students, Nursery (age 3) through 6th grade, with youngsters representing some 28 nationalities. The student population is approximately one third British, one third International and one third American, with 70 percent of the teaching staff from England.
The school offers rolling admissions, so that children can enter the school throughout the year, as long as there is space available in their specific year group. This is particularly helpful for families who have been transferred internationally at short notice.
BISNY teaches a mix of the English National Curriculum blended with the methodology of the International Baccalaureate. This combination is unique in New York and offers an appealing blend of academic rigour, and transdiciplinary learning all within an intimate and nurturing environment. It is also designed to allow maximum portability and transferability for students who may remain in the US system, move to another International school, or relocate back to the United Kingdom. So far, children from The British International School of New York have gone on to gain placement at some of the leading schools in New York including Spence, Trinity and Horace Mann, and also back in the UK, such as Colet Court (St. Paul’s Preparatory School), and Westminster School.
Last September, The British International School of New York opened a new campus adjacent to the main school which houses a science laboratory, art studio, and three new class rooms specifically designed to meet the needs of the older students as they head in to Middle School. This year it expanded further into an additional study centre, music wing and dining hall.

Like UNIS and BISNY, Waterside is an extraordinarily diverse community, with residents from more than 55 countries. Its easy access to the United Nations as well as these schools has attracted many families with kids enrolled at these schools.
As noted in many articles, the plaza itself features multiple playgrounds and play areas for young children, offers facilities like a pre-school and community center, and is completely secure, with 24 hour security and doormen who pride themselves on knowing all the members of every family in their building.
Waterside's apartments include many 2 and 3 bedrooms with multiple baths, unique layouts, amazing views, and most of all, large living rooms and bedrooms, notably larger in many cases than other nearby developments.
